WALDOBORO GROUPS SPONSOR YOUTH FITNESS CHALLENGES

Waldoboro, Maine-The Waldoboro Recreation Department, the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, and the Waldoboro Little League Association are joining together to sponsor two youth fitness challenges this spring.

PEPSI MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL® PITCH, HIT & RUN™ COMPETITION

On Saturday, May 20, 2006, these groups will present the free PEPSI MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL® Pitch Hit & Run Competition for all Midcoast boys and girls, ages 7-14.

The competition is at Medomak Valley High School's baseball and softball fields. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, May 21st.

The Pitch, Hit & Run Competition is the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball®. The program provides youngsters with an opportunity to compete; free of charge, in a skills challenge that encourages and recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills. There are four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, boys and girls compete together.

All participants must present a birth certificate, or baptismal record, to verify age, and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.

Advanced registration is available through the Waldoboro Recreation Department, or you may register on the day of the event. The U.S. Junior Olympics Skills Competition sponsored by Kellogg's Frosted Flakes®

On Saturday June 10, 2006, the Waldoboro Recreation Department, the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, and Medomak Valley High School will host the U.S. Junior Olympic Skills Competition at Medomak Valley High School. The rain date will be June 11th.

This event is free and open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13. Boys and girls compete separately in a variety of skills such as basketball, soccer, tennis, and track & field. Children may participate in any or all of the athletic sports, but may only participate in one local qualifying event per sport.

The U.S. Junior Olympic Skills Competition encourages youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle by promoting fitness, physical activity, and sports participation.

Parents may pre-register their children at the Waldoboro Recreation Department, in the Town Office. Children must be born between the dates shown to be eligible to participate in their respective age group. All participants must present a birth certificate, or baptismal record, to verify age, and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.

Participants may advance through three levels of competition, including local, regional and the final national event in Colorado Springs.
