Waldoboro Paint the Town a Great Success

Waldoboro, Maine - On Saturday, August 19, 2006, Waldoboro's Tidemark Gallery hosted 21 artists for a celebration of art and local beauty. The artists, who came from throughout New England, created paintings inspired by views of the Waldoboro area. In the evening, the public joined the artists at a reception and live auction of these paintings along with other works by the artists. In addition, the artists donated a portion of the auction proceeds to four Waldoboro non-profit organizations that helped organize the event.

In discussing the day's activities, John Blamey, Tidemark Gallery artist, and Paint the Town Chairperson, said, "This event was a successful team effort composed of the Gallery, the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, the Medomak Valley Land Trust, the Waldoboro Lions Club, and the Waldoboro Public Library. We are very pleased with the results and look forward to making this an annual late summer event in Waldoboro. Our goals for this year were to ensure the artists enjoyed a day of painting and that the community enjoyed a social event celebrating art and the beauty of our area. Feedback from everyone indicates that the Team achieved its goals."

When asked about the results of the auction, Blamey stated, "With the tremendous help of Kaja Veilleux, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries, we sold in excess of $9,000 in art. This was an important event for the artists, providing them a venue to display and sell their art. It also was an exciting opportunity for the community to view and purchase paintings created in Waldoboro. Of course, the real bonus of Paint the Town for Waldoboro is that our non-profit team members earned over $500 for their organizations."

Blamey closed by saying that, "Staging an event of this scope requires a large team and I want to recognize the community members that helped make Paint the Town 2006 a success."

"Liz Petruska, the Medomak Valley Land Trust Executive Director, and Charlotte Henderson, Administrative Assistant provided important organizational and data support. The following Medomak Valley Land Trust members and friends played a key role by providing unique painting locations for the artists: Don Sarles & Carolyn Bryant, MaryJo & Byron Good, Tom and Connie Hammermeister, Gary and Thordis Gulden, Wayne & JoAnn Myers, Ed & Kirsty Karkow, Ron and Nadia Colvin, Joanne Omang & David Brunham, Bill & Brooke Pacy, and Al Maloney & Nancy Williams. In addition, Brooke Pacy, Susan Russell, Susan Alexander guided the out-of-town artists to their selected painting locations."

"The Waldoboro Public Library took responsibility for the organizing the evening reception. Nadia Colvin arranged a tremendous array of refreshments that set a great tone for the evening's activities. Assisting Nadia were Ardy Greatorex, Pam Blamey, Charlotte Davenhill, Roberta Goschke, Louise Price, Emy Kanewske, Sue Sherman, Connie Hammermeister, Jacqui Fawcett, Brooke Pacy, Jack Farlow, Claire Bowley, Borealis Breads, and Hannaford."

"The Waldoboro Lions Club transformed the Soule Shuman Memorial VFW Hall into an art gallery for the day. Mark Biscoe organized this task with help from Jane Biscoe, Lou Cook, Chuck Begley, Stan Paton, Valerie Shields, and Barbara Zucchi."

"The Medomak Valley Community Foundation organized the artists' breakfast and lunch, along with the auction. Charlotte Davenhill and Jane Lichtman served a continental breakfast while the artists reviewed potential painting locations. Andrea Kennedy, owner of Ocean's Bounty Restaurant, Route 1, Waldoboro, provided lunches for each artist. Charise Melvin, Colleen Jones, Danny Jackson, and Cheryl McLaughlin helped Kaja Veilleux with the successful auction by showing the art during bidding and helping buyers with their purchases at the end of the evening."

Charlotte Davenhill, owner of the Tidemark Gallery, closed by saying, "We also offer a huge thank you to the artists who did a superb job shouldering the creative burden for this event. These artists were the backbone of Paint the Town: Audrey Bechler, John Blamey, Pam Cabanas, Greg Chilenski, Diane Crowley, Marilyn Edelson, Barbara Ernst, Roberta Goschke, Holly Marie Haining, Emy Kanewske, Jan Kilburn, Mary Lavendier Myers, Brooke Pacy, Louise Price, Laurie Proctor-Lefebvre, Fred Reinke, Cali Veilleux, Charles and Candace Vlcek, and Carol Wiley. We look forward to having them join us again in 2007."
