Waldoboro VFW and Auxiliary Dedicate Bingo to Youth Athletic Fields Project

Waldoboro, Maine - John Howland, Commander of Soule Shuman Memorial VFW Post 4525, and Barbara Johnson, President of Post's Ladies Auxiliary, announce that the Post will donate the profit from its bingo game on Monday, November 6, 2006 to the Waldoboro Community Project. The bingo is at the VFW Hall, Mill Street, Waldoboro. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the early bird game begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Waldoboro Community Project is the Medomak Valley Community Foundation's fund raising campaign to build recreation facilities on town-owned land behind Miller Elementary School. Phase I of the Project includes construction of an additional Little League Field and Babe Ruth League baseball field. These fields will double as a youth soccer field in the fall. In addition, there will be new tennis and basketball courts.

Commander Howland stated, "The VFW is a strong advocate for the youth in our community, we are proud to be a 3-year supporter of the Community Foundation's fundraising efforts. This project is very important as it ensures all the children of Waldoboro and Friendship have enough facilities to fully participate and grow through these highly successful youth programs."

President Johnson added, "We are very pleased to again join the Foundation in this important fundraising effort. This continues our Auxiliary's long history of supporting community-based activities."

John Blamey, President of the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, stated, "The Foundation is very pleased that the VFW and Auxiliary are providing us with this fund raising opportunity again." He added, "Phase 1 of the recreation complex is gaining great momentum through the generosity of our many donors. The support of the VFW and Auxiliary gives us an opportunity to both raise money and tell our story about increasing the capacity of our youth programs. We truly appreciate their continued generosity and moral support."

Commander Howland closed by saying, "We ask everyone to support our community's children by coming to our bingo game on November 6th. You will have fun and also help the future of our community, our children."
