Medomak Valley Community Foundation Creates Memorial Fund
Waldoboro, Maine - John Blamey, President of the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, announced that the Foundation's Board of Directors has created the Kevin P. Murray Memorial Fund.
President Blamey stated, "The community lost an advocate for its children when Kevin Patrick Murray tragically passed away in late September. Despite the family's sadness, they sought to remember Kevin's goals by dedicating donations in his memory to the Community Foundation."
Blamey continued, "Just prior to receiving news about Kevin, the Foundation received a grant from Major League Baseball and the National Recreation and Parks Association to aid children to participate in sporting activities. The synergy of these two events led the Board to seek the family's permission to establish a fund in Kevin's memory to help children purchase sports equipment."
At its meeting on October 18, 2006, the Board officially ratified the Kevin P. Murray Memorial Fund. The Community Foundation will manage the Fund, and all money donated to the Fund will be used exclusively to help children obtain the equipment they need to fully enjoy their sports experience.
In announcing the creation of the Kevin P. Murray Memorial Fund, President Blamey stated, "As a community foundation, this fund truly fits into our mission of encouraging community action to help residents achieve their full potential."
In closing, Blamey said, "We are very grateful to Major League Baseball and the National Recreation and Parks Association for selecting the Community Foundation from among 405 applicants to receive one of their "Double Play Grants." Their generosity was the catalyst for creating Kevin's fund. Finally, I want to thank the Murray family for their faith in the Foundation by allowing us to sponsor the Kevin P. Murray Memorial Fund."
